Koningin Astridlaan

The project site is located on a corner plot along Koningin Astridlaan and Veldstraat in Bruges. It sits at the transition point between a neighbourhood of detached houses to the north and west, a zone with school facilities to the east, and an area of multi-family housing to the south. Morphologically, the project acts as a link between the large-scale buildings to the south and east and the smaller scale residential buildings to the north and west. The building volume comprises 34 student rooms and is positioned parallel to the street. It extends the established building line of the adjacent plots, allowing for a 5-meter-deep green buffer along the street. The building consists of three stories, with the top floor set back at the building's ends. This stepped design increases the distance from the plots in the back, ensuring privacy and minimizing cast shadows.

The facades are defined by a uniform grid of open and solid elements. The building is finished on all sides using a restrained material palette that complements the materials of the neighboring properties. The solid facade sections feature a red brick, laid in a vertical stack bond. The windows are recessed to reinforce the rhythmic pattern, while wide joints are used to accentuate the articulation of the facade.
