Dendermondesteenweg2

The project comprises 124 student rooms, distributed across three building volumes, of which the two western volumes are connected by a common plinth. The division into 3 seemingly autonomous volumes scales the project within the morphology of the surrounding buildings and facilitates a passage to the power plant site in the back. A volume with three storeys occupies the corner with the Cécile Cautermanstreet.

The two remaining volumes are oriented towards Dendermondsesteenweg and have four storeys. This creates a morphological transition between the small-scale buildings on Cécile Cautermanstreet and the buildings along Dendermondesteenweg. The project can be interpreted as a classic triptych of 3 uniformly materialized volumes, each differing in dimensions and design. The 3 volumes are arranged around a public green zone. In this way, the existing intersection is preserved as a passage between Ghent and Destelbergen on the one hand, and Gentbrugge and Sint Amandsberg on the other. A nuanced blue-grey colored brick materializes the façade.
