In accordance to the urban guidelines, we provide a two story building envelope with a height of 6m (STEP 1).
This volume would only allow for a floor to ceiling height of a mere 2,5m. Such height doesn’t suffice for programmatic functions such as cafeteria, gym, etc. We therefor apply a pitched roof, maximizing the height on the ground level to 3m, while providing the second floor with some extra height under the roof (STEP 2). In order to fit in all necessary functions, we’re obliged to plan an extra floor, which is sunken half into the sloped terrain (STEP 3). In order to provide the polyvalent hall with sufficient daylight, we pull up the roof in a second way, making the hall easy to divide into different sports courts (STEP 4). The building is materialized with thermally treated wood, blending in with the agrarian surrounding (STEP 5).
